Alice playing Pfrancing
Based in Perth Western Australia, Composer and Saxophonist Alice Humphries has been involved in music from an early age. Currently studying under Graeme Lyall, Alice is in her final year at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts majoring in Jazz Composition. In 2006 she was a finalist in the BMW James Morrison Scholarship held in Mt Gambier, South Australia. She has been a featured soloist with the West Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO) and played with artists such as James Morrison, Joe Chindamo, Emma Pask and Don Burrows. Alice recorded with WAYJO for ABC Jazz Track in late 2006 and also with the WAAPA big band in 2005 for their album ‘Random Musings’. Recently Alice’s chart ‘Cracker Barrel’ was performed by Matt Jodrells All Star Big Band for their annual Jazz Windows Concert.
Influences: Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Kenny Wheeler, Paul Desmond, Stan Getz, Cannonball Adderley, Enrico Morricone, Vince Mendoza, Bob Brookmeyer, Sammy Nestico, Bill Holman and Lennie Niehaus.
